My name is Josephat Munemo, and I am currently a fifth-year medical student. Prior to studying medicine, I completed a Bachelor of Health Sciences degree, followed by an Honours degree in Clinical Microbiology. While these academic milestones have been instrumental in shaping my passion for healthcare, they also brought significant financial challenges, particularly as funding opportunities became increasingly
limited after my prior qualifications.
Before receiving financial support from the Tiso Skills Fund in partnership with Aurogen SA (Pty) Ltd, my academic journey was marked by ongoing financial strain. To sustain myself and continue my studies, I relied heavily on tutoring and other small income-generating activities. Although this helped me meet some basic needs, it often came at the expense of valuable study time and added considerable pressure. Balancing the rigorous demands of medical school with financial insecurity created a constant source of stress, which at times affected both my academic performance and overall well-being.
Receiving funding from the Tiso Skills Fund has been truly transformative. This support has alleviated the burden of tuition fees and day-to-day expenses, allowing me to focus fully on my studies. As a result, I have been able to engage more meaningfully with my academic work, improve my performance, and approach my training with renewed confidence and stability.
Currently, I am completing my clinical training as a senior medical student, gaining hands-on experience in patient care across various disciplines. This stage of my education is both demanding and rewarding, and the financial support I have received has enabled me to fully immerse myself in this critical phase of becoming a healthcare professional.
Looking ahead, the support from the Tiso Skills Fund and Aurogen SA represents far more than financial assistance, it is an investment in my future and in the future of the communities I hope to serve. It has allowed me to continue pursuing my goal of becoming a doctor, with a strong commitment to contributing meaningfully to the healthcare system and improving access to quality care.
I am deeply grateful for this opportunity and for the belief that the Tiso Skills Fund and Aurogen SA have shown in me. Their support has not only eased my financial burden but has also empowered me to pursue excellence in my training and future practice. In conclusion, this funding has played a critical role in removing barriers that once hindered my progress. Its impact on my academic journey, personal well-being, and future aspirations cannot be overstated. I sincerely appreciate this investment in my education, and I am committed to ensuring that it translates into meaningful, positive contributions in the years to come.
From the friends and me I have made throughout my journey, I would like to say thank you, dankie, ngiyabonga, ke a leboga, ke a leboha, rea leboga, ndzi khensa, ndza khensa, ndi a livhuwa, enkosi kakhulu.
